Young Author Contest
Books Due: Tuesday, January 31st
This begins Cottonwood Canyon Elementary School’s ninth annual Young Author Contest. Each student, kindergarten through fifth grade, will be required to write and illustrate an original book. Completed books will be considered for awards for writing or art, or for the Imagination Machine (a group of actors who perform the books that the students write.) The students will be reading these books to their peers in class.
If you would like your child’s story to be considered for the Imagination Machine performances, please send in a typed, 1 page copy of their story. Please remember to include their name, teacher’s name and grade level when submitting their story.
The book must meet certain qualifications. Your child’s book needs to include:
- A durable front cover
- A title page
- The story must be at least five pages long
- A picture or photo on each page
- An “About the Author” page (you may include a photo)
- At least one comments page
- A durable back cover
The story can center upon a special vacation, sports event, a special person or animal in the child’s life. The topic is open; feel free to explore your options. The story may be either fiction or non-fiction. Each story should have a minimum of five pages with five sentences per page.
This can be an extremely exciting project or a very tedious one, if you wait until the last minute. The project can be child hand-written or written on the computer. The child must be the one doing the majority of the work. The story should be written by the student in his or her own words. All artwork is to be done by the student. Parents may assist by editing, typing, and assembling books. Remember that these books are due on Tuesday, January 31st.
Thank you,
Cottonwood Canyon Staff
