Hi Parents.  Our students will be tested on the following items for their first report card.  I am providing examples of each section on the report card so that you can assist your child at home with the concepts they are learning and practicing in class.

First Semester Report Card

  • upper case letters
    • i.e.  What letter is this “A”?
  • lower case letters
    • i.e.  What letter is this “a”?
  • letter sounds
    • i.e.  What sound does this letter make?  “a”
  • beginning sounds
    • i.e.  What is the beginning sound of “desk”?
  • opposites
    • i.e.  What is the opposite of “old”?  What is the opposite of “open”?
  • sound blends 
    • Directions: Do not show the word to your child.  Please say, “I am going to tell you the sounds. I want you to tell me the word they make.”  
    • i.e.  Say each letter sounds separately.  “t / e / n”   Your child should then blend all three sounds to say “ten”.
  • CVC Words 
    • Given 10 Consonant-Vowel-Consonant words, your child will read them without assistance.  Unlike the sight words, students may sound out the words to acquire the whole word.
    • i.e. ten, top, hat
  • basic shapes
    • Students will be able to identify these shapes:  circle, square, triangle, rectangle.
  • counting objects
    • Students will count up to 20 objects in a rectangular array, circular array, scattered configuration, and in a straight line.
  • more, equal, less
    • Which group has more?  Which group has less?  Which groups have the same amount?
  • larger/small numbers
    • Which number is larger?  6, 9, 4
    • Which number is smaller?  7, 10, 9
  • number recognition 0-20
    • What number is this?  “16”
  • writes numbers 0-10
    • self-explanatory
  • compose/find missing addend (up to 5)
    • If I have 3 apples, how many more do I need to make 5?

There are other assessments, however, the concepts above are areas in which parents can assist their child at home.
